Atlantic Canadians Receive 15 Nominations for 2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards

Of the 100 nominations across 19 different categories announced for the 2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards announced today, 15 went to Atlantic Canadians. While Pharis & Jason Romero (Horsefly, BC) led the way, taking a whopping 6 nominations, and the legendary William Prince (Winnipeg, MB) received 5, The East Pointers found their way into third place, with nominations in the categories of Contemporary Album of the Year, Contemporary Singer of the Year, Pushing the Boundaries, and Single of the Year.

Among the Atlantic Canadians nominated this year are Mike Bravener (NB), Paige Penney (NL), Rum Ragged (NL), Mark Manning (NL), Bèolach (NS), Natalie MacMaster (NS), The Gilberts (NS), Catherine MacLellan (PEI) and The East Pointers (PEI).

While the total number of Atlantic Canadian nominations is down from 21 in 2020, the number of nominations this year stretches from 15 to 20 if you also include Atlantic Canadian ex-pats Coco Love Alcorn (NS), Mike McKenna Jr. (CB) Sussex (NB) and Beauséjour (NB).

After being forced to cancel their 15th annual award show, which was to be held in Charlottetown, PE, thanks to the current pandemic, the CFMAs have anticipated once again taking place online. All 19 Awards, plus the Unsung Hero Award, will be presented virtually, over the weekend of April 9-10, 2021.
