Justin Fancy Moves On From His Onscreen Relationship With ‘Beauty Queen’

Justin Fancy is losing his tv wife. The award-winning Newfoundland country artist is saying goodbye to his onscreen romantic counterpart with the release of his new video for “Beauty Queen,” closing a chapter on his quartet of videos, beginning with his song “Think About You.”

Justin Fancy and Samantha Picco have a friendship that goes right back to their childhood and takes some twists and turns when it comes to being on screen. Fancy performed as a contestant on Canadian Idol, while Picco appeared on Big Brother Canada Season 7. It was in early 2020 that they appeared onscreen together, with Picco taking up the role of Fancy’s love interest in his video for “Think About You.” She has since appeared in three more of Fancy’s videos, including “Sure Beats A Good Time“, “Makes Me Wanna” and now “Beauty Queen,” creating a loose story arc.

While “Beauty Queen”—pretty blue jeans and all—sees Picco expressing interest elsewhere, with Fancy making it clear he’s moving on, he also says that it doesn’t mean we’ve necessarily seen the last of Picco.

“Samantha has been a huge part of making the songs come to life in each of the videos she has been in, and I hate to say this, but our on-screen romance has come to a definitive end,” says Fancy. “That’s not to say she won’t be in any videos in the future, though. You never know where she might pop up.”

The song stands out as an upbeat take on a breakup. “Beauty Queen” doesn’t linger much on heartache. Rather, Fancy says the song is meant to look back on failed relationships as something to have endured and empowered for having survived the experience.

“I’ve never been afraid of wearing my emotions on my sleeve,” says Fancy. “Bad break-up songs might be cliché, especially in country music, but I see this song as a positive spin on a lesson learned. It’s the kind that song I’m confident my fans will be singing along to, while also understanding and embracing the meaning behind it.

“I’ve been through it, and I freely admit that getting over someone you truly loved is one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with in my life. But everything happens for a reason, so to anyone out there wondering if there are better days ahead…there are.”

Speaking of moving onward and upward, Fancy’s career recently took another step forward with a recent invitation by The Recording Academy to be the first Canadian Country artist to perform in their Press Play At Home series. It can be watched online at Grammy.com.
