Fredericton’s Stephen Lewis & The Big Band of Fun are off to play at the Mountain Jam music festival. It’s their second time the band will be performing at the festival, but among the twists announced today among the festival’s lineup was the news that the festival will be moving from Hunter Mountain, New York to the original site of Woodstock 69 in Bethel. Jamie Comeau & The Crooked Teeth, the most exciting band to come out of Saint John in years, finally drop the first single from their upcoming debut album. “Tall Pine,” recorded at Marshall Studios in Fredericton with Jay Merrill, might have a message that suggests you take some time to relax, but the band wrapped it up in a tune that consistently gets festival crowds up and dancing. Among the many things noted in the East Coast Music Association’s report Striking A New A-Chord: Recommendations for the Growth and Development of Canada’s East Coast Music Industry is the region’s dire need for industry infrastructure. That includes a alarming lack of music publishing companies, agents, publicists, managers, and more. One of New Brunswick’s music scene regulars stepped in to help that gap. Not to say that Tomato/Tomato have had any false starts, but every band experience a period of finding their footing as they experience success on increasingly larger scales. Tomato/Tomato are less than a month away from releasing their new album, Canary in a Coal Mine, and it might just be the album they’re forever remembered for — it’s likely to dwarf their previous releases.
