The Brood might have called their first full album Transistor, but they could very well have meant Flux Capacitor. Like a bunch of Marty McFlys in a Bricklin, they’re not all that great at time travelling. On the other hand, the result is a beautiful smorgasbord of late 20th century radio hits, like someone produced the album after glossing over the cliffnotes of pop music. Music Video: Hillsburn Announce New Album With ‘Strange Clouds’
Hillsburn have spent a lot of time on the road this year. They’ve toured across the country nearly incessantly, as anyone who follows their Instagram can tell you. That’s a lot of time for five humans to be trapped in a van together. Despite a healthy amount of van laps, that time can add up and result in passive aggressive behaviours that vent and manifest in unusual ways—like music videos. ‘Strange Clouds‘ is the newest single from Hillsburn’s upcoming LP The Wilder Beyond, and while we haven’t consulted a psychologist, we think the video might say something about the current state of the band. The Artist In The Bear Suit: The Watercolours of Jon Claytor
As an occasional lecturer at Mount Allison University, co-founder of SappyFest and a devoted father and artist, Jon Claytor is a regular feature of Sackville, New Brunswick. His work ranges from watercolours and traditional paintings to filmmaking and all fits into a uniquely Claytor narrative. His most recent project, ‘Take My Breath Away,’ is a collection of watercolours, bringing in characters from Sackville in a unique book; it’s a hybrid of visual ethnography, philosophy, music and humour. At the core of it is a family album exploring the intricate nature of love. So why does the artist appear throughout the book wearing a bear suit?
