In Review: Saint John Theatre Company’s ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’

While most Canadians were at home napping off their Thanksgiving dinner, the Saint John Theatre Company opened their 2016-2017 Studio Series with a dress rehearsal of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’. Rather pointedly, the audience were made up of immigrants and refugees (with the exception of one theatre reviewer, who does admittedly comes-from-away). All ( though again, with the exception of one reviewer) were invited through YMCA Newcomers – a program which seeks to help the recently relocated settle into and make the best of their new home . Fog Lit Festival Floods Saint John With Authors, Aims to Curb Illiteracy

Fog Lit Festival, Saint John’s annual festival for readers and writers kicks off Wednesday, September 28th at the Saint John Free Public Library. The festival is in its fourth year, and have added a few new events to the schedule this time around, including their first bilingual event, Poetry Prélude on Friday evening.  Other new events include Walking in the Myst, aimed at young adult readers, and a Fog Lit Farewell event to close out the festival Sunday. City On Fire: Trailer Released For Saint John Documentary

Earlier this week the teaser trailer for the upcoming CBC Television film City On Fire was released online.  Based on James Mullinger’s quest to prove that anything is possible in Saint John, the film follows the story of his move to New Brunswick and his attempt to sell out Harbour Station for the biggest comedy show of his life. Hopscotch Whisky Bar Opens In Uptown Saint John

This week, Saint John’s newest and most hotly anticipated bar, Hopscotch Whisky Bar, quietly opened its doors to some discrete fanfare. After breaking ground on the project in October of last year, delays in the project had the public asking, were they ever going to get to have a wee dram at that new whisky bar? On Tuesday, August 30th, the answer finally came, as the bar had their soft opening for a select few in the know, and those lucky enough to happen upon it.
