As part of the grand scheme of normal, and our slow but unceasing march back towards it, Kiwi Jr. have done their part, contributing in their own measure and kind with the announcement of some long-overdue tour dates. Nature is beginning to heal itself.
More excitingly, depending on your perspective, is the opportunity to pick up some especially curious and flashy new merch from the band while at said tour dates (or via their Bandcamp page if you’re feeling less patient).
Kiwi Jr. has partnered with cartoonist Dmitry Bondarenko to their album, Cooler Returns, into an illustrated 24-page booklet full of wilder interpretations of their already unfathomable lyrics.
“To see all of the insanity of our lyrics represented visually is wild,” says Kiwi Jr. lyricist and singer Jeremy Gaudet. “There’s stuff I saw in here that surprised even me, and I wrote the damned thing.”
Bondarenko literally colours in the gaps between the lyrics we’d been left to only imagine as some spectacularly bizarre and literally interpreted situations. The illustrations look just as wonderfully bizarre as we’d imagined.
Kiwi Jr. will be kicking off their renewed and revised tour dates on July 17, beginning with River & Sky Festival in Sudbury, Ontario, followed by a series of Fall and Winter dates with support from TUNS, Chad Van Gaalen, Surfer Blood, Tobin Sprout, and co-headlined shows with Nap Eyes and Trace Mountains.
