Single: Adyn Townes Gets Nostalgic in ‘Kids’

With a pinch of reflection and a cup of nostalgia, Adyn Townes is back with his latest single, “Kids.” The track comes a month and a half after the Fredericton artist’s previous single, “Leave It Alone,” and in anticipation of his upcoming album, In Frames.

“Kids is about the days when life and love were effortless,” says Townes.

The track brings listeners back to the mindset of a teenager experiencing the intensity of love and infatuation in all of its overpowered, youthful glory. Decisions were made without thought, thrills were easy to come by and regard for consequences was little. Nights were alive with adventure and mistakes were many.

Leaning more into an indie sound in “Kids” than in his previous work, Townes cites The National and Death Cab for Cutie as influences. The track takes on more of a pop sound and moves further from the folk style we usually see from Townes.

The track evokes a bright but hazy, high-emotion mood with its drum-heavy, reverberated and soft sound.

The vocals sing, “Kids; we didn’t mean it, we didn’t care what we did; oh, we were just kids” in an auto-tuned style that fits surprisingly well with the feel of the track.

Though our younger years were awkward and hard, we would all be remiss if we didn’t admit we look back on them with a deep sense of nostalgia now and then.

Produced by Colin Buchanan, the track also features Bruce Rooney on guitar and synth, Josh Langille on drums and Buchanan on bass.

After having released his debut album After the Fall in July of 2018, Townes’ upcoming album will be his second full-length release. Though In Frames was temporarily put on hold when the pandemic hit, Townes now expects to release it in February 2021.
