Single: PINEO & LOEB Team Up With Rumpus For ‘Body Right’

Ever since the first modern shower was invented in 1767, it has been a hotbed of great ideas. With so many splendid epiphanies originating in the shower, just imagine how brilliant the ideas that come out of a sauna could be.

That’s precisely where PINEO & LOEB, Halifax’s electronica juggernauts, found themselves as they were gearing up for Shambhala 2019 with fellow artist and trackmate Rumpus. As the trio relaxed in a sauna somewhere in Regina, Saskatchewan, thoughts were bounced back and forth, and the idea for their latest single, “Body Right”, was born.

Surprisingly, the definitive driving force of this collaboration stems from the percussion.

Unsurprisingly, and as expected of most all projects involving the Nova Scotian duo, it’s an ear-catcher.

The tune starts out with a suave, industrial shuffle before building up tension with a subtle bass and hypnotic chant (“Moving my body right”). As this tension rises and rises and the drop becomes more and more imminent, listeners will reflexively prepare themselves for a wave of synth and bass to overtake them. This isn’t quite the case this time around; the tune’s equivalent of the chorus isn’t particularly busy, with the more synthetic parts of the tune (the aforementioned bass and synth) following a fairly simple and relatively infrequent pattern, resulting in a sound that doesn’t exactly take center-stage.

However, this frees up room for the percussion to flex its dynamism, with that same industrial shuffle from earlier continuing to dance all over the track, creating an entrancing quality all its own when paired with the tune’s atypical supplements.

Unconventional? Yes. Welcome? Double yes.

Despite these new ventures, the tune will be right at home with the duo’s impressive collection of dancefloor bangers and tracks for car rides short and long. Hopefully, Rumpus invites them to another sauna very soon.
