Today the 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards announced the winners, with their awards show conducted entirely online. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the Awards show was scheduled to be held in Charlottetown, PE, and with 21 nominations going to Atlantic Canadian artists there was a certain amount of excitement spread around.
Dave Gunning went into the Canadian Folk Music Awards show with four nominations, making him tied for first place with The Small Glories. Gunning was nominated in the categories of Contemporary Album of the Year, Contemporary Singer of the Year, English Songwriter of the Year, and Solo Artist of the Year.
In the end, a total of 4 Canadian Folk Music Awards will be making their way to Atlantic Canada: Rachel Davis received the Traditional Singer of the Year award for her performance Còig’s album Ashlar. Matt Andersen received the Contemporary Singer of the Year award for him album Halfway Home By Morning, Irish Mythen received the Solo Artist of the Year award for her album Little Bones, and Daniel Ledwell received Producer of the Year for his work on Lennie Gallant’s album Time Travel.
