Single: Butcher Announce New Album with ‘Most Medicated’

Ahead of the upcoming album Self Loathe, Saint John’s grunge four-piece Butcher have released track number one, “Most Medicated,” as a single. In keeping with the theme of having an unhealthy relationship with yourself, the track dives into the troubles of finding release in substance abuse.

“Most Medicated” is about self medicating via drugs and alcohol and how much of a slippery slope it can be, how it’s primarily a quick fix and will need constant correction (more drugs and booze),” says vocalist and guitarist Cole Savoie.

The vocals scream “take me down” in repetition to form the chorus, symbolizing the idea that each time you give in to intoxication as a quick fix, you are letting the drugs or alcohol and your actions pull you in even deeper.

“It feels fine, I suppose I feel a little vulnerable, but that’s okay.
We’ve been pretty straight forward about our subject matter, mainly touching on depression, love loss, self medicating, etc, and how it’s okay and youre aren’t alone — a lot of people deal with and have dealt with all that.

“I’m also almost 30 and have dealt with these issues in the past and still deal with some. I haven’t really expressed myself, so it’s nice to let the shit out. It’s nice to express myself in a healthy way.”

Fittingly, the album is said to follow somewhat of a theme. With a title like Self Loathe, it is easy to imagine what emotions and influences went into the band’s most recent work. Leaning basically as far away from any sense of self appreciation as possible, drummer Colin Ferris states it’s “a pun on “Self Love.”

Though no official show dates have been announced yet, the band are looking at book for late March to correspond with the release of Self Loathe.
