Single: Andre Pettipas and the Giants Aren’t Making Any Mistakes With ‘Sympathy Card’

The title of Andre Pettipas and The Giants upcoming sophomore album, No Fools No Fun, implies that some mistakes are inevitable, it’s more a matter of how you handle them. “Sympathy Card,” the final track recorded for the album, is a song about recognizing those mistakes and owning up to them. Single: Moira & Claire Worry About Their Friends on ‘Better Than This’

The music industry is fleeting by its very nature. The whole thing is built around capturing an experience, and even those are becoming increasingly intangible. Artists and producers, the whole of the industry, really, often pass like ships in the night. Single: Tomato/Tomato Go Vintage, Ditch the Washboard, and Get a Little Wild on ‘Better at Leaving’

Tomato/Tomato are keeping us guessing. With the duo’s new album due being released soon, we’ve been dealt a series of songs digging into their roots – not necessarily those of the charming folksy, washboard and guitar sound they’re known for, but the sounds that made them fall in love with music in the first place.

His tongue-in-cheek protest song, “Who Will Listen To Country Music When Trucks Drive Themselves?” champions the need for ear-having peoples to hold their place behind the wheel. It calls for bartenders to remain tender. It insists that John Deere lawn tractors are maintained at their current IQ levels. Single: TV Wife Surprises With a Psych-Rock Tune We Thought We Had Sworn Off, ‘Social Distancing’

The mere mention of the much-maligned “quaran-tune” has become a nigh-on unforgivable sin. Eleven months into the year, eight of which have been spent under varying stages of lockdown, the ubiquitous concept of composing under quarantine, universal though it might be, has become the most tiresome subject matter to ever be put to song. Every now and then, however, a surprise comes along.

Fredericton’s TV Wife has tip-toed over our standards to bring us “Social Distancing,” and we swear this song is it for the genre. There’s nowhere left to go that hasn’t already been done, never mind crafting something enjoyable.
