Music Video: Paige Penney Holds Hope for a Return to Normal on ‘When All Is Said and Done’

Paige Penney’s new single, “When All Is Said and Done”, is a multi-generational family-affair that, despite these challenging times, optimistically assumes that everything will work out just fine. She’s even making plans for the future.

Penney has some big ambitions for the new world, whatever form that might take, and those ambitions involve travel. Those far off lands seem all the further just now, and the idea of travelling anywhere, trapped in a metal tube hurtling across the sky while rebreathing the air of your co-travellers for a stretch of several hours, seems terrifying. And then you’re actually expected to handle foreign objects on the other side?

But this is the sense of normalcy Penney still clings to. “When all is said and done,” she sings. “I will drink champagne in Paris with you.”

The message behind “When All Is Said and Done”, however, is obviously a hopeful one and not just some empty platitude you murmur to calm a collapsing civilization.

As Penney explains, “After this pandemic is all over, our love and dreams will still remain,”

Written with her mother, Lea-Ann Biddiscombe-Penney and co-written and produced by her father, Kirk Penney, they then directed and filmed the music video at home and Paige’s great-grandparents farm.

“During the pandemic, my parents and I had to write a song about what we were going through because none of us had experienced something like it before,” says Penney. “We decided to write about how ‘When All is Said and Done’ our love, hope and dreams will still be here.”

While Penney isn’t off to Paris just yet, she has been making the best of her time online. Like many musicians who have had their shows and tours cancelled, she says that, in the meantime, she has chosen to adapt by performing online gigs and live streaming, growing her online presence, and collaborating with other songwriters.
