Area 506—Saint John’s massively successful festival, known for bringing big acts like July Talk, Wintersleep, Bahamas, Stars and Tegan & Sara to the city’s waterfront—made a special announcement today. The festival said that they’ll be interrupting their usual summer programming to bring you a break from the winter doldrums with a concert from Saskatchewan rockers The Sheepdogs.
In partnership with Shivering Songs, New Brunswick’s resident champions of winter music festivals, Area 506 will be bringing in the JUNO Award winning Sheepdogs to the Port City during the band’s Changing Colours album release tour. The show will also feature special guests Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs.
“The Sheepdogs have been on our wish list since 2016, and when we heard they were coming through New Brunswick, we knew it was something we needed to aggressively pursue,” said Ray Gracewood, Chairperson for Area 506. “Saint John needs to be an option for these bands, and we’re confident the people of Saint John will support great rock & roll. We’ve got this great momentum happening now, and we’ll continue to do what we can to ensure great bands have the Port City on their radar.”
“This album has a much wider range of sounds on it: trombone, clarinet, Latin percussion, pedal steel, fiddle and banjo all make an appearance,” the band said in a statement. “The title Changing Colours really lends itself to these different sounds on the record… We were also lucky to work with newcomer Jim Bowskill, whose guitar wizardry is almost outshone by his fine mandolin playing and singing.”
The Sheepdogs will be performing at the Kent Theatre on March 13th, 2018. Limited tickets will go on sale this Thursday, February 8, via area506.ca, at an advance price of $39.95 (taxes/fees included).
Area 506 celebrates the best of New Brunswick’s music, culture, and goods. Its third edition will take place in Saint John from August 4-5, 2018.
