Halifax Jazz Festival 2018 – “Keep Calm and Chaka Khan”

As far as festivals go, the Halifax Jazz Festival is best described as a city festival. There are no tent villages or campsites—at least not ones for sleeping in. A lucky few were able to enjoy the music from stadium-style bleachers, but most spectators seemed to prefer standing in the middle of the festival grounds, taking it all in with their plastic beer cups in hand. Premiere: Cameron Nickerson on ‘Gettin’ out of Dodge’ and Going Solo

Cameron Nickerson spent the better part of a decade playing with The Rockabillys. They were sharing stages with bands like The Stanfields and The Sheepdogs, and got signed to a record label. Then all that changed. Nickerson found himself back home in Yarmouth and wondering what to do next. He released his first solo album, Detours, back in January, and true to the album’s title, “Gettin’ out of Dodge” is about taking some sharp left turns when your career hits a fork in the road. Halifax Urban Folk Festival Announces Full 2018 Lineup

The Halifax Urban Folk Festival has released the full lineup for this year’s event, happening in Halifax from August 26th to September 2nd. The new additions include Jarvis Church of the Philosopher Kings and Joel Plaskett, who will be sitting in as a Halifax All-Star to back Dennis Ellsworth. New Music: The Bloody Hell Make a Strong Entrance with Self-titled Debut

After forming a year and a half ago, Halifax’s horror punk four-piece the Bloody Hell have just released their self-titled debut album. The release follows their singles “Evil Everywhere,” which was out this past February, and “Last Word,” which surfaced just seven days ago. With all of the dark and morbid imagery it has to offer, The Bloody Hell lives up to its genre while still discussing topics relatable to our everyday lives.
