Michelle Morrison Debuts with a Pair of Folky Singles – ‘Quarter After Midnight’ and ‘A Silver Lining’

Michelle Morrison is hardly a stranger to New Brunswick’s music scene. Morrison has been a constant presence and has been performing on and off since 2013, beginning with the group Sawmill Creek. If it seems a bit past due for her to be releasing any recorded music, she’s making up for lost time with two folky new singles: “Quarter After Midnight” and “A Silver Lining.” Continue reading Michelle Morrison Debuts with a Pair of Folky Singles – ‘Quarter After Midnight’ and ‘A Silver Lining’

Chamber Pop Duo Pallmer Go for Big Moods Through Minimalism on ‘Quiet Clapping’

Quiet Clapping, the latest EP from Fredericton-based chamber pop duo Pallmer, is a great slumbering beast. You can hear the organic rhythm of its heartbeat, the slow rise and fall of its breathing and even its thoughts flittering about. It’s a spectacular example of what Pallmer do best: well-appointed minimalism with classical roots and modern applications. Keith Hallett Comes to Big Turnip for a Special Release of ‘World War 3/One Kind Favour’

Keith Hallett has long been headed down the path of becoming a folk legend. A regular performer, his music has only irregularly been committed to a physical medium. While Hallett’s Fredericton-based doom punk band, Janowskii, was featured on The Capital Project’s double-vinyl release, and his self-titled solo album went out on CD/cassette back in 2015, he’s making a vinyl debut as a solo artist on the equally curious folk label, Big Turnip  Records with a 7″ single. Pallmer Emphasize a Multi-Layered Message in New Video for Love Song ‘Bricks’

Fredericton-base chamber pop duo Pallmer do not beat around the bush on their latest single. At just seven lines long, “Bricks” is an honest and simple love song that can barely be troubled with more than the scantest metaphor about constructing enduring some based on growth and shared experience, but for the full emotional experience they’ve wrung it out for a solid three minutes. Joel Strauss Manifests Channels Rock Greats on ‘Cross The Desert’

It’s truly remarkable what one person is able to do when immersed in the field of music. The plight of the solo musician is as intimate a setting as the field gets; no creative discord, not too many moving parts,  just us and the decorative soul of the artist.

It’s like that old saying; give a man a guitar, he’ll play a rough Brown Eyed Girl at a campfire. Teach a man to play guitar, he’ll become a one-man Smashing Pumpkins. We’re not quite sure how Fredericton’s Joel Strauss was taught in the ways of the six-string, but his latest EP, Cross The Desert, is five steps in the right direction towards becoming the Atlantic Canadian Billy Corgan. Homely, precise, and engaging, Strauss’s latest five-track EP is the latest in a line of works that has seen him gain acclaim from many outlets and fellow artists.
