Nova Scotia rock ‘n’ roll outfit Andre Pettipas and The Giants have released a new single, “The Swedish Motel.” Co-produced by Jon Landry of The Stanfields and Jason Jenkyns of CodaPop Studios, the self-proclaimed “grease coast rock ‘n’ rollers” preach the life of a musician in an old-school package.
“The Swedish Motel” outlines the up-and-down lifestyle of a musician, whether they are toiling in obscurity or wallowing in fame.
“The Swedish Motel was a vehicle that our mentor, Gord Stensrud, used with his band in the 80s as their band rig. It was a swanky Volvo station wagon they called ‘The Swedish Motel,’” the band explain.
“It’s about the long days and self-doubt being worth it for those 45 minutes of music you play onstage with your best friends at shows. Also an ode to those musicians who tried their hardest and gave up on the dream.”
The single has a heavy classical rock vibe, using a very groovy, almost George Michael-esque guitar riff and Pettipas’s versatile voice at its backbone while the whispery keyboard and uncharacteristically appropriate amount of cowbell completes the track.
The band will be touring across Canada in support of the new single with shows in New Glasgow, Pictou, Truro, Toronto, Hamilton, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Winnipeg and more upcoming venues to be announced mid-summer. They will also be opening shows in Nova Scotia for The Trews, Matt Mays, and Wintersleep.
Following their Canadian dates, the band, appropriately enough, will be heading to Orebro, Sweden to showcase their track at the Live At Heart festival. The band will also finish shooting scenes for the song’s music video. Andre Pettipas & The Giants say to expect the video for “The Swedish Motel” sometime in September.
