Q&A: Jill Higgins on Capturing the Beauty of New Brunswick for Icons Series

The artwork of Jill Higgins is just as iconic as the landscapes she paints. Utilizing a bright palette–often dancing well into neon territory–along with the punch of high contrast, her style is as immediately recognizable as her subject matters of New Brunswick’s beaches and landmarks. Her series, titled Icons: New Brunswick, which she has revisited for a special event, captures the province with all the same allure that the Canadian Pacific Railway had a century ago. Monthly Roundup: July 2021

Welcome to the end of July! Maybe it’s just because we’ve completely lost our perception of time over the last year and a half, but this month and this summer feel like they’ve flown past faster than they have any right to. It’s hard to believe that just thirty days ago we were releasing our staff picks for The Best Music of 2021 (So Far) and we’re already staring down the barrel of back-to-school supplies.

We managed to fit in a very full month’s worth of work, especially thanks to the help of a couple of new contributors: Dan Chamberlain and Steve MacIntyre. Hopefully, you’ll be hearing a lot more from them.

East Coast Music Association Pivots 2021 Awards Show & Conference from Sydney to Online Event

With Nova Scotia announcing tighter restrictions for travel amidst concerns and rising numbers of cases of COVID-19 in the province, the East Coast Music Association has made the decision to move their 2021 East Coast Music Awards from an in-person event in Sydney, Cape Breton to an online event.
