New Music: Ceeb Dread Brings Back Boom Bap With ‘The 5th’

For a city that’s really a glorified small town, Fredericton has a thoroughly diverse soundscape. Jazz and Blues is a source of community pride, DJ’s and dance acts are thriving, metal is an underground, sleeping behemoth, and indie-hipster rock rules supreme at most venues. Unfortunately, some genres tend to get lost amongst all the competing noise. Continue reading New Music: Ceeb Dread Brings Back Boom Bap With ‘The 5th’

Gary Flanagan Re-Releases ‘Lights & Frost’ Just In Time For The Holidays

Christmas has a rich history of cultural ritual and personal custom, including all the trimmings of turkey, cartoons, family, and the inevitable awkwardness that ensues. It’s a time to be happy and humble, giving and grateful… and assimilate to the every whim of ma/pa, nanny/grampy and previously-estranged uncles/aunts and cousins who decided, for whatever reason, this was their year. Many, however, thought the planet itself to be doomed; then, a seductive voice boomed, “COME BACK TO MY PLACE.” Continue reading New Music: SHRIMP Ring’s Interstellar Dance Party ‘Activate Your Function EP’

New Music: Starving Ghosts’ Hauntingly Beautiful ‘Une Année à Moncton’

When JE Sheehy isn’t shredding strings for Fredericton based hard-rock band, Deep Fryer, he apparently spends his time as a reclusive solo artist, specializing in ambient instrumentals. A triple threat of creativity, to his credit, Sheehy is not only a musician but also a bilingual journalist and radio host. Over the course of the last year, Sheehy has been releasing a series of singles and EP’s under the aptly titled moniker of Starving Ghosts. In December these tracks will be collected for the first time outside of SoundCloud, to form a proper album, released via local New Brunswick label, Bored Coast Records.
