Quote the Raven Sing a Blue-Collar Ode on ‘Home Is Worth the Blues’

Newfoundland’s Quote the Raven have penned a cross-Canadian co-write with Country Music Alberta Roots Artist of the Year-nominee Blake Reid, turning out an ode to blue-collar living. Their new single, “Home is Worth the Blues,” is a song dedicated to those who bear the grind so that their lives at home might be all the more joyful for it.

“Home is Worth the Blues” is no boot-stomping, grit-in-your-hair, sweat-on-your-brow, mud-on-your-truck commercial jingle to convince that your masculinity can be measured in horsepower, but a humble nod to those who dutifully plug away, day after day. Think gentle slide guitar, not gated drums and Red Bull-fueled machismo. This Quote the Raven, single is just like a warm bath at the end of a day; appropriately, just the sort of thing you want to come home to.

The origin of the single also comes with an appropriate, yet curious, context.

“Written in a slaughterhouse in Calgary, the single was inspired by the environment, the stories told and the history within the building,” says Quote the Raven’s Jordan Coaker and Kirsten Rodden-Clarke.

“We want this song to resonate with those who are always working tirelessly to make ends meet and to know their voices are heard.”

The duo will also be treating “Home is Worth the Blues” to a fresh music video later this month, but the single itself is Quote the Raven’s way of letting us know that their next album, Can’t Hold the Light, can be expected to be released sometime this year. The album promises to showcase their new American Folk sound and features collaborations with many of our favourite East Coast musicians including Chris Kirby, Charlie A’Court, Andrew Waite, Nick Earle, as well as some of our favourite musicians from across Canada, include Jessica Pearson, Andrew Sneddon, Blake Reid, and more.
