Single: Bridget & Dahlia Resurrect the Bones of Folk with ‘Hide’

Bridget Swift and Dalhia Waller, the up-and-coming folk duo of Corner Brook, NL are about to making some waves. The pair are on the edge of releasing the debut album, but their newest single is going to give you chills. Have a listen to “Hide.”

Claiming influences from songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Laura Marling, you can immediately tell that Bridget and Dahlia’s strength lies in tender lyrics and crystalline harmonies that resonate with the bedrock of folk music. Pitched over a simple bass-line and guitar roll, the song gracefully and refreshingly finds a balance that feels like a return to innocence in the increasingly overwrought genre.

”My original inspiration for ‘Hide’ was to write about my future home, about some imaginary place I’d live,” explains Bridget Swift, one half of the duo. “It ended up turning into a song about dreaming about the future, not knowing what lies ahead, and trying to find a place in the world.”

Nearly stripped to the bone for instrumentation, the song allows the lyrics to shine in a way that seems like it might have been forgotten sometime in the early 80s.

Bridget & Dahlia began recording their upcoming album, Runaways, with producer and artist Steve Maloney in early 2018. The album is now set to be released on August 1st, 2019.

The duo currently have a series of tour dates planned for this summer which will take them across Newfoundland.
