Music Video: KINLEY Invites You to Come Play on Her Island with ‘Golden Days’

Kinley Dowling is stepping in for Prince Edward Island’s tourism board with her latest video, “Golden Days.” Filmed at the island’s Blooming Point back in October of 2017, the video is a reminder that maybe Prince Edward Island should be topping your autumn vacation destination list.

The video stars Bryde Maclean (Pogey Beach, A Blessing from the Sea, Black Guitar) and was filmed by award winning film-maker Jenna MacMillan who had worked with Dowling on her previous video for “Microphone.” KINLEY explains that “Golden Days” is her love letter to Prince Edward Island.

“I wanted to have a celebration on a beautiful sandy beach. My favourite beach in Prince Edward Island is Lakeside beach. This video was filmed not far from Lakeside, at Blooming Point Beach,” explains Kinley.

“It’s also a letter to some friends who were working out west. They followed the setting sun where there is more opportunity to make money, but maybe lost sight of other things. It’s a suggestion that maybe they come home and enjoy the simpler things in life.”

Aside from the general homage to her home, Kinley also says that the video is a call home to members of the LGBTQ community who left the island because they’d felt they couldn’t be themselves there.

“I know some people from Prince Edward Island who are gay or queer and live off PEI. When they come home sometimes they aren’t comfortable telling their families that they are gay. I know PEI can be a bit behind the times but we are more progressive these days. There are lots of people working hard to make everyone feel like they can be themselves. We have a gay Premier!”

Or, as they say in the commercial, Kinley wants everyone to know that they’re welcome to “come play on [her] island.”
