Shivering Songs, Fredericton’s midwinter festival of songwriting and storytelling are gearing up for this year’s edition and have announced the 2018 lineup. Now in their eighth year, Shivering Songs have earned their reputation as connoisseurs of fine song and songcraft, bringing in acts that tend to the poetic side of things. Held during one of the coldest months of the year, the festival brings a bit of sunshine—or at least a good story—to brighten those dark winter days.
Festival organizers say that they are particularly excited about this year’s initial lineup, which includes Bahamas, The Weather Station, David Myles, Catherine MacLellan, Sandro Perri, Hillsburn, Timbre Timbre, Fiver, Tim Baker, The Hypochondriacs, Motherhood, Reeny Smith, Nick Ferrio, Camille Delean, David R. Elliott, The Montgomery Street Band, Sleepy Driver, Chris Coole and John Showman, Dana Sipos, Sugarbomb, The Waking Night, Quinn Bonnell, Brookside Mall, Graeme Kennedy, Evan Leblanc, Stabbing Joy, Les Moon Tunes, Ladd & Lasses, and, of course, festival founders The Olympic Symphonium.
This year’s event also includes an extra special tie-in as the dates correspond with Bahama’s album-release tour, featuring The Weather Station on all three appearances.
“We jumped at the opportunity to grow and include a Tuesday album release show with Bahamas, one of the most in-demand acts in the country,” said co-organizer Zach Atkinson. “We’re so thrilled to present them at the Festival alongside […] so many other voices of this next generation of the Canadian songwriting tradition.”
The performances will once again be held in a number of beautiful, historic and unique spaces throughout downtown Fredericton, including the Wilmot United Church, the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, the Boyce Farmers Market, the Capital Bar and the Urban Almanac General Store.
In addition to the Fredericton dates, Shivering Songs will be hosting two additional shows as part of Bahamas’ release tour for their new album Earthtones: one in Moncton on January 14th at the Capitol Theatre and one in Saint John on January 15th at the Imperial Theatre.
Shivering Songs will be held January 18th to 21st, 2018. Tickets are available now and $1 from each ticket or pass sold will be donated to the United Way of Central New Brunswick’s annual fundraising campaign.
