Area 506 Announce Their 2017 Festival Line-Up

Last summer, Area 506 surprised the people of Saint John. First, by announcing that uptown Saint John would be getting a festival celebrating music and culture inside of a post apocalyptic arena constructed from shipping containers. Secondly, by delivering a barn burner with show stealers like Wintersleep and July Talk. Today they’ve announced their successors who will be taking the stage with the 2017 Area 506 line-up.

“We’re really excited for what’s in store for 2017,” says Ray Gracewood, Chairman of the Area 506 committee. “This year we’ve got a 100 per cent Canadian line up on our main stage for Saturday and Sunday. We’ve added a second stage sponsored by Canada 150, which will highlight New Brunswick bands, musicians, and cultural groups performing on Saturday and Sunday. And we’re working with local partners to brand some fun activities for the holiday Monday.”

This year’s big names include the likes of Tegan & Sara, Stars, and The Strumbellas, as well as a load of local favourites like Grand Theft Bus, Les Hay Babies, and Matt Mays.

Of course, being a festival of not just music, but culture as well, Area 506 will feature a number of vendors housed inside of its Cargodome. The festival will also feature a craft beer garden to showcase how much fantastic beer we have in the province.

“Much like last year, our one and only objective for 2017 is to create a soapbox for the music, culture and goods of New Brunswick,” added Gracewood.  “Last year’s event was affirmation of the amazing things happening in our province.  We’re ecstatic about the level of interest people have shown in the concept.”

The event takes place on the Saint John waterfront August 7th, 2017. Tickets for the event go on sale Wednesday April 12th at Area506.ca
