Festival (506) kicked off last night, opening with Music/Musique NB’s 2016 awards show, honouring New Brunswick’s music industry. With 25 awards being handed out, it was an eventful show.
Moncton-based rock group Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire walked away with four separate awards, while Miramichi’s own Lionsault was awarded both the Fans’ and Members’ Choice awards as well as nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year. Fiddle legend Matilda Murdoch was awarded MNB’s Director’s Lifetime Achievement award for her long and prolific career, yet another of the significant recognitions she’s received in the past few years for her contributions to New Brunswick music.
Other notable awards this year were Fredericton’s Kill Chicago with The Grey winning Album of the Year, Moncton’s Simon Daniel winning Emerging Artist of the Year, and Moncton’s Tyler Hache album Silent winning Solo Recording of the Year.
